Lawyer and author, Berjis Desai has been on the Board since 1997. Having practised transactional and dispute resolution laws, for the last 45 years, Berjis Desai, upon reaching 60, retired as Managing Partner of JSA, a national law firm, having more than 550 lawyers across seven locations in India.
A Master of Law (starred first) from the University of Cambridge, Berjis is now an independent legal counsel engaged in Private Client Practice, that is, succession and estate planning for HNIs and promoter families through wills, trusts and family arrangements; resolving family, testamentary and business disputes through mediation and confidential fast track arbitration; insolvency and asset reconstruction advisory.
Berjis Desai has published five books, both fiction and non-fiction.
Satish Mehta is the first-generation entrepreneur and visionary who started Emcure in 1981 with the purpose to provide affordable and high quality healthcare to patients to significantly improve their lives. With him at the helm, Emcure, today, is engaged in developing, manufacturing and marketing a broad range of pharmaceutical products globally. The company has world-class infrastructure, skills and resources with facilities approved by foreign drug regulatory authorities of various countries incl. USA, Europe, Russia, Australia and Brazil. Emcure’s strengths span from research to the manufacturing of APIs, Formulations and Biotechnology. Mr. Mehta has also been instrumental in Emcure entering into strategic alliances with MNCs to bring world-class products to the Indian market at affordable prices.
Through Satish Mehta’s active initiatives, Emcure has also created forums for empowerment of women employees under PRERNA and skill development initiative under NEEM scheme. He has also guided Emcure’s unquie CSR initiatives to impact society in numerous ways and raise awareness about environmental sustainability.

Mr. Satish Mehta is a Postgraduate in Chemistry from the Pune University and has a PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
Samit Mehta is Whole-time Director & Chief Operating Officer of our company. He is the Chief Executive Officer and a Director on the Board of Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd. as well.
Samit has played a pivotal role in developing the business of Emcure in the regulated markets of the USA, EU & Canada. During his tenure as the President of Research & Development at Emcure, he helped the organization develop a tech-driven differentiated and diversified portfolio through strategic project management. He has been involved in the launch of several innovative products in high-growth therapeutic areas and for Emcure’s entry into new platforms.
Prior to joining Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Samit worked as a Management Consultant (Strategy) at Ernst & Young LLP (India). During his tenure at EY India, he advised several major clients from different sectors including Healthcare, Education and Mining.
Samit has done his graduation and post-graduation in Commerce from Pune University. He holds an MBA degree from the Ivy League Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He also serves as a Board of Directors at Uth Beverage Factory Pvt Ltd.
Ms. Namita Thapar joined Emcure as CFO, post her 6-year stint at Guidant Corporation, USA, subsequently her responsibilities grew to managing Emcure’s largest business unit, the India Business.
Namita Thapar is passionate about improving women’s health in India and promoting youth entrepreneurship. During the Covid pandemic, she launched a unique YouTube talk show on women’s health called Uncondition Yourself with Namita which aims to provide authentic information and break stigmas and taboos associated with women’s health. She leads Incredible Ventures Ltd, an education company that teaches entrepreneurship to 11 -18 year olds.
Namita Thapar is a recipient of various prestigious corporate awards such as The Economic Times ‘40 under Forty’ award, Barclays Hurun Next Gen Leader recognition, Economic Times 2017 Women Ahead List, World Women Leadership Congress Super Achiever award.
Namita Thapar serves as a Board Member on the India Regional Advisory Board of Fuqua School of Business, as a trustee on TiE Mumbai Board of Trustees, and is also an active member of Young Presidents Organization.
Namita Thapar is an MBA graduate from the Fuqua School of Business and a Chartered Accountant from ICAI.
Sunil Rajanikant Mehta has been associated with the company since October 1983 and joined the Board in 2013. He also serves on the board of Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd.
Sunil Mehta has played a vital role in setting up Emcure Group’s State of the Art Infrastructure and Manufacturing Facilities. While doing so, he has ensured that every facility is modern, has the right mix of sophisticated equipment and automation, is environment friendly, complies with all protocols and guidelines and most importantly, safeguards the health and safety of our employees. He is also actively involved in the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities.
He is a graduate in Commerce from the Pune University and a postgraduate in Business Administration from the Institute of Management Development and Research, Pune.
Dr. Gurjar has played a vital role to help develop Emcure’s differentiated portfolio across key target therapeutic areas and establish multiple tech-driven innovative platforms. He has over 32 years of experience in pharmaceutical sciences and is a fellow at various national and international academies.
His interest is in synthesis of complex molecules and drugs containing chiral centres. This expertise culminated in development of many chiral drugs for cardio vascular diseases, anti-inflammatory, proton-pumping inhibitors. The non-biological complex iron drugs and anti-hyperphosphatemia coupled with complex oncology drug, HIV drugs etc. form the basic premise of his applied research activities.
Mukund Gurjar held membership of many journals including American Chemical Society, Taylor-Francis, Harwood Academic, and Indian Chemical Society. He is a member of many Indian Academic Societies.
Mukund Gurjar holds two Ph. D. degrees from Nagpur and London Universities in Chemistry and did his Post-Doctoral Research at the York University, Toronto, Canada. Dr Gurjar retired from the distinguished CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune as a Deputy Director and Head of Chemistry Division. He has to his credit over 250 publications and over 180 patents. A large number of research scholars have secured Ph. D degrees under Dr Gurjar supervision.
The prestigious Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi had published portfolios of 75 eminent scientists, Dr Gurjar name appeared in that list.
Dr. Ayyangar, having over 40 years of experience in healthcare, has gained deep experience in Pharmaceutical R&D, Biologicals, Pharmaceutical operations, Animal Health, Consumer Healthcare & Strategic M&A. He has been associated in building businesses and launching some of the biggest brands in healthcare industry.
For nearly 18 years, Shailesh Ayyangar was the member of International Leadership Team of Sanofi and Country Chair for India & South Asia running all business interests of the Sanofi Group including Pharmaceuticals, Specialty care, Vaccines, Animal Health and Consumer Healthcare. He built the business from its infancy to bringing it to be amongst the most respected and fast growing MNCs in India & South Asia. He was also involved in global & national M&A activities and innovative partnerships (Apollo Sugar Clinics). One of the longest serving Country Chairs in the country and region.
Shailesh Ayyangar served 14 years at GSK, during which he was the Head of Tropical Medicine R&D group in the United Kingdom for 5 years and Exec VP, GSK India & MD, Bangladesh.
Currently, Shailesh Ayyangar is a Senior Sector Advisor for Healthcare Investments (Value Accelerator) at Goldman Sachs Alternative Asset Management group. He is a Member of the Board of Governors at IIM, Ranchi, Member of the Governing Council at the Cancer Cure Fund of Indian Cancer Society, Chairman of the Noveltech Feeds Private Limited (Fully Owned sub of Goldman Sachs), Chairman of Universal Nutriscience Private Limited and Independent Director at the Shaily Engineering and Plastics Limited, Vadodara
Shailesh Ayyangar is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (Gujarat Veterinary College, Anand, India), has a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (MBA) from IIM, Ahmedabad, India and has also completed the Advance Management Program (AMP) from INSEAD, Fontainblue, France.
Shailesh Ayyangar is also the recipient of one of the highest civilian awards from President of France: “Officier de l’ordre national du merite”, 2016.
Vijay Gokhale joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1981. His previous diplomatic assignments include postings in Hong Kong, Hanoi, Beijing and New York. He has also served as Deputy Secretary (Finance), Director (China & East Asia) and Joint Secretary (East Asia) during his stints at the Headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs. He was High Commissioner of India to Malaysia from January 2010 to October 2013, Ambassador of India to the Federal Republic of Germany from October 2013 to January 2016, and Ambassador of India to the People’s Republic of China from January 2016 to October 2017. He served as Secretary (ER) from October 2017 to January 2018. Mr. Gokhale was Foreign Secretary from January 2018 to January 2020.
Mr. C S Muralidharan is a Cost & Management Accountant with a Master’s degree in Commerce and has completed the Executive Program in General Management from Booth School of Business, University of Chicago.
Mr. Muralidharan has overall 40 years of corporate experience spread across hydro-carbon and pharmaceutical sectors. He has held various board and senior leadership positions across multiple entities in India, Asia and Europe. He has had proactive engagements with the Board demonstrating strong partnership on Strategy M&A transactions, enterprise risk management, capital restructuring, enterprise transformation and ESG initiatives. He has previously worked with organizations like Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Ranbaxy Group, Lupin Limited, Matrix Laboratories Limited, Watson Group and in his last role, was associated with Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, as Group Chief Financial Officer, where he was responsible for global finance, strategy, M&A, investor relations, governance and compliance.
Dr. Yeravdekar is the Principal Director of Symbiosis Society, and the Pro Chancellor of Symbiosis International University. The Symbiosis International University is a multi-disciplinary, multinational, multi-cultural University that having 45,000 students from all States of India and international students from 85 countries.
Vidya holds a Post Graduate Degree in Medicine, a Degree in Law and Ph.D. in ‘Internationalisation of Higher Education in India’. Having presented papers at various National & International Conferences, she has numerous research publications to her credit and has also authored several books. Ranked No.14 amongst India’s top 25 Powerful Women, Dr. Vidya has been instrumental in bringing in innovative approaches to promote internationalisation of higher education in India.
Vidya has been appointed as a member of the expert group on Global Outreach of Higher Education, formulated by UGC to implement the National Education Policy 2020 that was rolled out by the Ministry of Education Govt. of India. Dr. Vidya has been appointed as a member Advisory Group of Analytical and Advisory work (ASA), World Bank.
She is a member on the Board of several organisations like Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Research Committee of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Public Health Foundation of India, Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences Indore, Symbiosis Skills and Open University, Pune. She is a member of many corporate bodies such as Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Confederation of India Industry (CII), Maratha Chambers of Commerce and Industries (MCCIA) and Not for profit organisations like HK Firodiya Foundation, India International Centre (IIC), Pune International Centre (PIC) & Pune Citizens Police Foundation (PCPF).

Raghu Kumar is a distinguished business leader with over four decades of experience in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and consumer products sectors. He currently serves as the Chairman and Independent Director of Emcutix Biopharmaceuticals Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Emcure Pharmaceuticals Limited.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Kumar has held several senior leadership positions with leading multinational organisations. He served as Managing Director of Allergan India & South Asia, Chief Executive Officer and Business Unit Head – OTC India Cluster at Novartis Healthcare, and Chief Executive Officer of Bayer Pharmaceuticals India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. He also held leadership roles at Schering-Plough, Johnson & Johnson, and Godrej Soaps Limited.
In addition to his corporate leadership experience, Mr. Kumar is actively engaged in teaching and
management consultancy. He currently serves as a Member of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Rohtak and as a Member of the Board of Studies in Pharmaceuticals at NMIMS. He has also served on the Executive Committee of the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI) and has chaired its OTC, Technical Supply Chain, and Medical & Regulatory Committees.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Economics and Mathematics from St. Stephen’s
College, University of Delhi, where he secured a University Rank, and a Post Graduate Degree in Business Management (Marketing) from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He has also undergone leadership training at Harvard Business School.
He’s been associated with the company since 1989. He is on the Board of Zuventus Healthcare & of Emcure’s International Subsidiaries. His responsibilities also include overseeing the Commercial structure and procurement.
Sanjay has played a crucial role in devising the strategy for RoW markets enabling Emcure to enter new markets and deepen market penetration. He has also shaped the company’s commercial structure with years of service & ingeniousness and helped the organization achieve a seamless supply chain, continuous improvements in productivity & smooth distribution of finished products.

Vikas has a proven track record with 23 years of work experience and expertise in providing value-added business and financial support to multiple companies across different industries.
Vikas has been an integral part of the Emcure management team for the last 15 years. He initially looked at Business Development and later his role expanded to include Corporate Strategy and Finance. He has played a crucial role in spearheading Emcure’s growth in Europe and Canada. Vikas has led Emcure’s inorganic growth strategies over the years and has spearheaded acquisitions of various companies, brands and product portfolios. He has ensured the seamless integration and scale up of critical acquisitions helping the organization in establishing a global footprint. He has also driven Emcure’s various fundraising efforts.
Prior to joining Emcure, Vikas worked in the Silicon Valley, USA with Ebay/PayPal as well as Agilent Technologies where he worked in Finance.
Vikas holds a bachelor’s degree in Management Science from the University of California, San Diego. He did his MBA from the USC Marshall School of Business of University of Southern California.
Tajuddin Shaikh has been associated with Emcure for close to two decades and is also on the Board of Emcure’s International Subsidiaries.
Tajuddin is recognized for his strategic and analytical capabilities and for being a team builder with a passion for organization development and training. He has been an integral part of multiple strategic initiatives at like, M&A deals, group restructuring, PE Investments, raising capital both equity and debt. Additionally, he has also led various Technology initiatives at Emcure.
Prior to joining Emcure in 2003, he had worked with S.R. Batliboi & Associates (Ernst & Young).
He is a qualified Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and Cost Accountant from the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. He has further completed Senior Management Programme course from IIM Ahmedabad.
Dr. Gondaliya has played a vital role to ensure Emcure’s Manufacturing Units run productively and seamlessly. As part of this role, his priorities also include Environment, Health & Safety Management, implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices and Process Efficiency with lean manufacturing.
Deepak focuses on advancing scientific breakthrough leadership in Drug development for complex generic, injectables and complex manufacturing processes with strategic end – to end priorities on company’s portfolio, manufacturing infrastructures and deliverables.
Prior to Emcure, he served reputed pharmaceutical industries in India where he held positions of responsibility of Developing products for global markets. Deepak holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology).
Deepak is a named inventor on more than 20 patents and has published 5 articles in international journals, with contributions in Novel Drug Delivery Systems and Process. His astute leadership qualities are standout among his peers and won “The Best Manager Award” from The Times of India Ascent conclave too.
With an association of 25 years with the company, Rajesh Nair has worked across HR operations, employee relations, talent acquisition and management, among other functions. What sets him apart is his ability to communicate with employees at all levels, which has helped in aligning leadership goals with organizational accomplishments.
As an HR leader he strongly believes in being a business person first, which gives him the freedom to develop HR’s scope as a strategic function. He sets direction for the overall strategy of the HR function. He works passionately in the development and implementation of diversity and inclusive initiatives in the organization. He also ensures compliance with government, state labour standards and policies.
Prior to his current role as President-HR Emcure, he headed the Human Resources department for Emcure’s Manufacturing facilities, Research and Development (R&D) units and support functions units of Emcure.
He is an MBA from Savitribai Phule, Pune University. In his other assignments, he was also associated with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, for a brief but impactful stint in 2009, where he was associated as BU HR Head of the company’s Biologics Development Centre.
Mr. R.S. Vasan has over 40+ years of experience in the Pharmaceuticals Industry and has held various senior leadership positions in MNC’s viz) GSK & Johnson & Johnson and leading Indian companies viz. Sun Pharma. Earlier, he was associated with Sun Pharma as Cluster Head & Senior Vice-President for 15 years. Mr. Vasan holds a PG in Management from Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Sydney, Australia, and has been trained at IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore & ISB Hyderabad. He is also a Rank Holder in Master of Science in Organic Chemistry.
